No power then dies

I rode Saturday to my grandparents about 40 miles away. It ran great! No problems at all. It sat all day as we were doing a farm tour for the public and then I rode home. Well, it was 62 for the morning ride and 80 for the ride home. The first 20 miles home went great. No problems and loving the ride but then it started to drag here and there and then would lose all power. If I pulled the clutch and tried to rev it it would just die period. It would die no matter what. I tried to choke it and run on prime and reserve but no difference. It did it 5 times the last 20 miles. I'd pull off and let it sit a minute and start it up, sounding great, then ride till it died again. I figured out that the fuel filter was going empty and when off it would refill and keep up for 4 or 5 miles but empty again.
I changed the petcock out for a new oem last year.
New fuel hoses and filter as well.
Ride home gas tank level was at least a few inches above the suction tube of the petcock when I got home.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
