Wiring Fault

I wonder if anyone can help, I've recently bought a 1992 XJ 600 Diversion that hasn't been used for a while. It was fitted with an alarm, now removed, but the oil level light won't go out. The wiring all looks intact except there is an extra wire from the starter solenoid to the -ve on the battery. Without this the bike won't start, i.e. no starter motor, as if the kill switch is on.

The oil light goes out when the bike is in gear and the clutch 1/2 pulled. At this point the relay on the LHS of the bike "clicks". I've removed the oil level sender from the sump and this works when checked with a meter. I think a wire may have been disconnected during the alarm fitment-something to do with the remote start???

I hope someone can help as I'm stumped!

Cheers all and Happy New Year.
