They will work if the tachometer is electronic though I suspect it is not. Look at the back of the tach and see if it has a cable drive like a speedometer. If it does, it's a no-go unless you can sort-out how to use a small electric motor driven electrically, to drive a cable and then drive that mechanical tach. I've thought about it often but never followed through.
