Hello XJ!

Tonight I just visited a 97 XJ and the owner wants 1200 but said he would go 1100. So I wanted to know your opinion in if this bike will be worth it or not. I am located in Lansdale, PA for anyone's referce.

1. I am not sure where the vin of the motorcycle on the engine is located, but the numbers on top of the engine did not match the listed vin on the bike.

2. The bike dipped forward allot, almost all the way down so I was wondering if this was common of XJ? Guy said they were usually soft front suspension. How far should stock suspension fall down?

3. I know these bikes have hard time starting cold but today it was barely 51F and the guy have to roll the throttle a little bit for it not to shut off, but once it was warm it was fine. Guy said it was jetted.

4. Guy replaced the stock muffler and his new one has springs holding the new muffler to the midpipe. Is this normal? Sad part is it is a single exaust now..

5. On the underside of the location that houses the clutch there was a rubber covering the area where the outside covering and the engine meet (the crack area). Buyers guy post said this was a typical leak spot. The guy said the clutch was replaced and the engine shifted very smooth so I believe him.

6. While riding (never ridden one of these before) the engine was smooth when I was not accelerating. However when I was accelerate, it would very very slightly (almost not noticeable) drop in rpm. I also felt like I needed to shift around 3-4k rpm from the way the bike felt.

7. Does this bike have a very sensitive throttle? Felt like the slightest input sent the bike accelerating.

8. When I turned off the bike, their was a noise that sounded like a faucet slowly dripping water in your sink. I could not find a a visible leak but it was making that sound. Maybe the metal was just unexpanding from being heated?

9. The bike has 30,00 miles and the only physical damage to it is a slight crack in rear fairing that looks like a scratch it does not have the fairing covering the bottom of the engine either.. Oh, the engine was painted black but was a bad job and the windshield was spray painted black. The engine paint will need to be redone etc if I want black.. Fun project I guess? XD

I previously drove a Suzuki GS 500f so that is my point of reference. I thank you if you answer and try to help me and if it is worth it then hopefully I can be apart of this cult! Haha
