Where the heck is my oil going? or not going?

So, yeah. I've got some problems. Here is the not-so-short version:
Couldn't ride for the last half of the year last summer so the bike sat til spring (I was on crutches for 6 months. It was awful). Prior to the bike sitting, it was running well.
Tried to start it up this spring and the air box flooded with gasoline and oil. Figured I had a bad petcock. Drained the oil and there was a lot of liquid, oil and gas mix that came out of the bike. Pulled the airbox off and cleaned, pulled the carbs off and cleaned (not disassembled, just sprayed them out pretty good with cleaner(rebuilt them two years ago)), put new boots on the airbox and the carbs, got a new air filter, new fuel filter and fuel line, new oil filter, new oil, new petcock, new gas.
Went to start her up today, it took a little starting fluid but she would run (slowly on full choke, low RPMS) but the oil light never went off after starting. About a minute into running, there is a bunch of smoke coming from the exhaust manifold where it connects to the cylinders, and it seems that there is oil coming out of somewhere in that area, but no leaks when it is cold and no highly visible leaks when running, but definitely burning oil off the front of the engine where the manifold meets the cylinders (and no it is not residue from oil changes, etc). When the bike cools down, the oil level in the site glass is gone (and yes, bike is upright, not on kickstand).
I figure that there is probably already an answer to this somewhere on the forum, but I couldn't find anything quite this specific. If so, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance for your help.
My bike is a 1993.
