How to Start your XJ600/Seca II

This How-to describes the process used to start your XJ600, both hot and cold.
Because the Seca II/XJ600 is jetted leanly from the factory and the carburetor tends to be a bit ornery when cold, it needs a bit of warm-up when starting. This is the process I use and it works well for me.
Cold Start:
- 1. Turn on the ignition key and ensure the bike is in neutral
2. Ensure that the kill-switch is set to the run position
3. Pull the enrichment knob out two clicks (fully out position)
4. Pull the clutch lever in
5. Roll the throttle slight open, maybe 1/8 throttle or so
6. Press the start button. The engine will roar to live and rev slightly
7. Blip the throttle, lightly and let the engine idle.
8. As the engine warms up, the idle will begin to get rough or it will begin to idle very fast (3k)
9. When this happens, push the enrichment knob in one click (to its middle position). The idle will smooth out or settle back down.
10.Allow the engine to continue to warm up. As it continues to warm, the idle will again get rough or fast.
11.When this happens, push the enrichment knob in fully (its fully in position). The idle will again smooth or settle.
12.Allow the engine to idle for a further few minutes while you gear up.
13.Slightly rev the engine and ensure it revs cleanly. This is a sign its ready for you to ride.
