Trip Tips

So, I've never taken my XJ on a longer trip (more than a couple hours). Any tips or tricks to help prep myself for a longer multi-state journey? Prep tips for the bike? Carrying gear? Etc. I'd love to hear any tips from those that have done it. Thanks.
