Charging connector melted.... :/

Sigh... So I was so excited, the bike was running nicely, I had a full tank of gas, brand new tires and fixed all the leaks. Well I got about 6-7 miles away from my house(not sure exactly) and I killed it at a red light trying to be extra nice to the clutch and not pop a wheelie again...(completely new to motorcycles) and the battery was completely DEAD!! not even enough power to light the neutral light up.

Well I got home, looked up on the internet and in my repair clymers and started testing using what fateddy had posted. The bike was barley above 12 volts(fully charged) with the bike on and barely increased voltage when reved. Followed the steps and got to where it said "bad connection in the positive lead from RR to the battery" well I checked the whole wiring and cut off the electrical tape and found this connected to the RR.

Is there a way to fix it?
I have a spare wiring harness, should I just splice a unmelted connector in?
How far back should I solder it in?
