Building custom fiberglass exhaust shields

I've started working on the heat shields (protective shields) for the mufflers. I've been researching fiberglass layups and have found some interesting things:
I found this over on the R6 forum while looking for some shots of one-off solo cowls. Starting with page 2, they guy built his own fairings. Quite impressive and perhaps a way to bring our lowly XJ's forward a few years in terms of asthetics.

And here's a really good photo writeup on laying fiberglass. What I like about it is it shows how to prep the area you're moulding. I will likely do the heatshields on the '97's exhaust, this way.
