VTR1000f front end swap

Hey guys. Been a while since I've been around. I sold my XJ a little over a year ago, and have since picked up a Honda VTR1000F Superhawk, and a 1982 CB750C. Anyway, my friend now just bought an XJ, and at the same time, I have been working out a GSXR fork swap for my VTR. So I figured I should give him the VTR forks for the XJ. Not the greatest forks, but dual front disks and what not. And they have tall clip ons that would work great with the XJ.
Has anyone tried these forks before, or any other non-yamaha forks?
Does anyone know the length of the XJ steering stem? The bearings are the same size in both stems. 47mm upper and 55mm lower. But obviously the spacing makes a difference.
Obviously the next choice would be to use a YZF600R triple setup since it is setup for 41mm forks.
