Previous owner had installed C8E spark plugs

I noticed that some of my spark plugs are C8E, whereas I've replaced them with CR8E
What's the difference between the two? I know the CR's have a resistor, but what does that mean for operation of the bike? Any reason why they would have installed the non resistive ones?
