taking mirrors apart

these are xj600 pre diversion or first generation mirrors (generic images off ebay, not my mirrors but same sort)
would like to change the mirrors but keep the arm (the ones i have in mind are extended with a welded section),
in order to do this i need to dismantle them, specifically to take the mirror out of its case, can this be done?
I don't want to exert too much force but so far can't see how they come apart. advice welcomed
