wheel bearings worth repacking?

Hey all,
I'm not sure I'm convinced I haven't washed all the grease out of the rear wheel when I cleaned it for repainting. There is still some visible grease past the seals and they are tight and smooth but the amount of degreaser and solvent that it took to find metal under the 20 pounds of grease back there. I cleaned out the hub bearing after pressing it out with my amazing redneck skills (paying close attention to not damaging it)...yeah that one is easy but to get the wheel bearings out it means pounding on the inner race which can damage the bearing. Is there a way to repack without removal?
