Pilot Screws

I bought a 2nd Seca for a few reasons, and I've decided to make it into another project. So the first thing I did was pull the carbs off and soak them in Pine Sol. Upon reassembly, I went to drill the pilot screw plugs out and noticed they were already gone- good! Except the pilot screws for carb 1 and 2 are completely mangled. They're rounded out badly, and I couldn't get them out no matter how hard I tried.
I've got two pilot screws on order, but my question is this- can I drill those screws out? It worries me because they're so soft, and so is the carb body. If they can't be drilled, is there an easier way?
