gear change problem

well took the bike for a run on the weekend did as good as 500 miles but the lats 10 miles on the way back changing down gear became very hard really had to push on the shifter. the clutch hasnt long been done new plates springs and thrust bearing. i took the bike out earlyer and its fine again. could it have just got to hot from doing 80mph for 22miles strait. the bike is a uk 1993 xj600s diversion any idea as to what it could be?
