headlamp takes away power from tail lights

hi all
i have a problem not sure if its big or not.
well thing is i rewired the front harness as it had a million wires everywhere.
when i took the head lamp off my tail light went to the proper brightness and when i connected it back up the tail light dimmed again.
now this only happens when its on main beam/dipped. when its on side lights the tail light works fine
has anyone had this problem or can someone give some advice. or can anyone tell me where the earthing points are
