Brakes and Speedometer.

Hey everyone, after putting off for months, I finally got around to rebuilding my carbs. My bike now starts (with a jump) and runs fine, I have ridden it all around my neighborhood and it seems to be running like a charm
There are still a couple of things that I need to fix though.
1.First of all I'm fairly certain that the rear brake is constantly slightly engaged, I haven't really tried anything yet, but my first thought is that if it is anything like a car I should be able to pop of the caliper and use a c-clamp to depress the piston. Should that do the trick?
2. My front brake is a mess! originally there was absolutely no response when I would pull the break, so i opened up the MC and the break fluid was dark brown with lots of small white-ish goowy globs of nastiness mixed in! So i drained the break lines. Should i get new break lines (I saw that stainless lines might be a good choice)? Do I need to get a break line pump to get the air out? Should I take apart the caliper? Not really sure how to proceed, so any advise would be great.
3. The speedometer on my bike is broken, the cable is still in fine shape but the place where it attaches to the wheel (there is still a rectangle about 1" by 3" that is missing something) broke off somehow
can i just get a new one of those pieces at the end or do i need to buy a whole new speedometer.
