Confirm Koso DB-01R wiring

I have the Koso unit mounted and it all seems great. But my neutral light never goes off (never had an issue on the old gauges) and the oil light never comes on ( such as when the bike is in gear and you try to start it as it used to do with the old gauges). It says in the very crude instructions that the Koso DB-01R works with either a +12v or -12v on both the oil and neutral lights. Is that the case or am I going to have to hack up the wiring more to make this work...or maybe the unit is defective? The neutral light will flicker on occasion when I change gears the thats the best it's got. I know a few folks out there are running this gauge set and would like a little imput on this matter.
