Plastics compatibility between model years?

So, I just picked up a '96 Seca II a couple weeks ago (first bike), and didn't realize quite what I was getting myself into. Both side covers are broken at the back, which isn't a huge deal but I'd like to eventually replace them. Much worse, the fairing is an aftermarket Maier universal, with a round headlight hot-glued in place. Total hack job, if you ask me, and I'd kind of like to go back to something closer to stock. I'd consider sticking a stock headlight on and leaving it naked, but I'm in the Seattle area and anything that can help keep the rain off while I'm riding seems like a good idea.
So, what I'm wondering is, how much (if any) did the plastic bits and headlights change over the years? If I'm scouring ebay and find something off a '92 or '93, do I have to be concerned about fitment or can I just assume it will work? Is there any real aftermarket for these bikes, or am I pretty much stuck with used factory parts?
