Hello from the central valley of California

I suppose I should introduce myself since I already jumped in head first asking for advice.
My name is Alex and I live in central California. I recently rescued a 1992 Seca II from abandonment and have been riding for about a month. My first ride was 200 miles from my father's house to my own: definitely a learning experience.
This is my first motorcycle and I'm already in love. I grew up in an auto shop and have been working on cars since before I can remember, but I'm totally new to bikes. Any advice or tips on riding, maintenance, repair, safety - anything at all - is surely appreciated.
