Four Turns!

I set the idle screws to three turns when I installed the carbs. The bike was still a little lean down low. It also had a little hole in the midrange, and a tiny surge up top. I pulled the carbs yesterday and reset them to 4 turns out. It's still a little cold-blooded, but it is PERFECT now when it is warmed up. We don't need no steenkin' IR thermometer! Four turns is the way to go. So it is written. So it shall be done. (OK, that was a little dramatic, but I think four turns is a pretty good ldea, for my bike anyway.)
Actually, I'll bet you could cure the cold-bloodedness with a set of #20 slow jets, but I think four turns is an OK solution if you're too poor to throw down $14.99 for a set of #20s.
