Noises and watery exhausts

Hey guys, recently did my valve clearances as i noticed it was getting a little noisier at the top end.
Now I'm not sure if I'm just getting paranoid now, but i keep thinking there's still something wrong up there as its still quite tappy.. but i can't remember if its always been like that. How much noise is normal? (Any videos about?)
Its worse when cold and gets better when its warmed up, i'm also read about exhaust leaks, how do i check for these (i'm useless as using the search function, nothing useful ever turns up..)
Another thing that's getting to me is white smoke from the exhaust. Now i know that because its winter there will be condensation in the engine, but even after a good run it still seems to be prevailant. I have a motad exhaust and where the 4 downpipes go into the connector, i get water dripping out of these connections at start up. They just seem to be spot welded together with no gaskets/clamps between them.. It this normal? End up with a little puddle of water as they bubble out the gap.
Cheers guys!
