Hi Guys,

I bought a (very seriously) beat up '84 XJ600 for $450 yesterday and spent most of the day tearing it apart.
The state of it leaves a lot to be desired. At last count I was looking at about $1300 in parts to get it to a state that would resemble something that you would be happy riding.
I ended up with it via a guy who bought it at a confiscated vehicles auction which was in May, so it at least ran fast enough to be able to get confiscated for excessive speed before then.

A lot of the parts are rusted, some appears to be surface rust only, others are in pretty horrible condition.

It's missing a headlight, it's been dropped on both sides. The left crank cover is smashed and was fixed at some point with jbweld or some other metal glue, the indicators are all electrical taped together (there was probably 2 rolls of electrical tape used over the whole bike, grips held on with electrical tape, throttle tube is smashed at the end, clutch and brake levers are busted on the ends, one mirror is missing, the other the thread is broken, all the cables (brake, speedo, clutch) are cracked and rusting on the inside) The shock is just about entirely brown. The list goes on.

The icing on the cake? The date on the tires says the front was manufactured on 2002 and the rear in 2001. They have plenty of tread, they're just 12 years old and hard as a rock.

All up I'm not sure if its even worth fixing, but I bought it to have a project bike to wrench on and learn without having to touch my current bike, so if nothing else it will be a suitable timesink thats not in front of the TV.

I've been reading the forums for the last week, and I've seen some incredible projects and a huge amount of knowledge, I look forward to contributing whatever I can.
