Boot recommendations?

I'm looking for a good armored boot. It's only a matter of time before I put my foot down funny at a stoplight or have a low-speed get off. I'm tempting fate with the boots I've been wearing for the last few years, and can't afford a broken foot or ankle. I want an off-road or adventure boot that comes at least to mid-shin and has reinforced ankle braces (i.e., that won't bend sideways). Research so far says that mx/adventure boots have the best protection available. Pretty much all of the street boots I've looked at are a little too Power Rangery for me. The majority of mx boots are too far out there as well, but the options are more attractive to me.
So far, I like the Icon Elsinore 1000, the Fly Racing Maverick, A* Scout, and Gaerne Balance. I want a mostly leather boot, something attractive that doesn't look too outrageous off the bike, and waterproof would be nice. I really like the look of the Elsinore above all others, but I've read that the build quality isn't superb. Oh, and less than $300 is preferable.
What's your experience or knowledge?
