Carb backfire question

I just installed a freshen up carbs w/ #20 p/jet. All settings are baselined.{float, idle, air/fuel mixture etc, etc} Boots are good, no engine problems but all carbs backfire while idling for 5 minutes. I had no time to synch or IR adjust the a/f mixture screws. Could this be the issue or should I pull the carbs to reevaluate them. Any comments would be greatly appreciated
