Got My Suh-Weet New XJ!

- I finally made it from mid-Michigan to NW New York yesterday to pick up my new-old XJ...and it's even better than I expected! It's a '93 with only 5,381 miles on it! I know from my old one ('94 with over 25k on it) that XJ's are cold-blooded, but in 30 degree weather it fired right up with a touch of the button and was ready to test ride down the road in about a minute. It bogged a little, but then I realized it wasn't even choked! My old bike took 5-10 mins with the choke on before it would even go in the summer. The clutch on my old one was apparently even more worn than I realized, too, because this thing grabs quick and tight...like a new bike. Yeah...I'm very happy!

:grins:

- The pics do it a little too much justice as far as the finish goes. It has quite a few scrapes and scratches on it, but no real damage; nothing some TLC and touch up won't fix. I have to swap my new front tire off my old bike, replace the leaking fork seals, and figure out if the engine is leaking oil or if that's just a mess from the fork seals (top & front of engine), but you'll never hear me complain about that.

- What I will complain about is this confounded cold weather! C'mon spring!!!

My buddy Shaun was good enough to let me put gas in his truck and chauffeur me across Canada to pick it up.

Then, some jerk tailgated us the whole way home! :-D

The boys are as anxious for a spring ride as I am.

My 20-month daughter wasn't quite as sure about jumping on it yet.

Thanks to Radare and a few others here on the forums, I'm anxious to decorate that blank canvas with a tasteful stripe this summer.

Shaun and I will be getting new bike plates this week (he rides a cruiser). His will say "CRASH" (he has a reputation) and mine will be "NBURN". Should get some fun looks when we ride side-by-side!

I was a bit concerned about the "oil leak" all over the top and front of the engine, but I realized today that it's probably just blowback mess from the leaking fork seals. We'll see!

5,381 miles...practically brand-new! (Least miles I've ever had on any vehicle in my life, lol!)
