dropped bike, stopped running after a couple minutes

the drop
i dropped my 94 xj600 for the first time ever. (i was not moving) the bike ran out of gas and i pulled over to flip it into reserve. as i went to put my foot down, the road on my right side was significantly lower than on the left side. im not that strong of a dude, but as i crossed a point where it was leaning lower than i could pick it up i tried to lay it down as gently as i could (in the grass)
problems begin here
i got some help picking it back up, flipped it into reserve, it started right back up. some smoke came out of the exhaust on start up but not a shit ton. after a quick inspection (bending the turn signal back), the bike sounded pretty normal. i rode to a gas station filled up and kept riding. this is when things started going whack. about 3-4 minutes after filling up the bike felt like it was out of gas again (the petcock was no longer in the reserve position at this point). really low power and when i went to pull in the clutch to stop at a light, the rpms dropped to zero. i rolled the bike to the side of the road still had a full tank and tried EVERYTHING i could think of.
choke OUT petcock ON, choke IN petcock ON, choke OUT petcock RES, choke IN petcock RES. the most i could get was it to run for a couple seconds and then die. nothing was leaking. nothing was damaged in the fall other than the blinker.
the only thing in my mind left that i could think it might be, is that i filled up the wrong gas at the gas station, but that is highly unlikely since i've filled up there so many times.
this is my first bike, i am very new to motorcycle design, if you need pictures to help diagnose, just tell me what to take a picture of
unrelated note
the seat also stopped coming up a couple days ago, there is no movement from the key at all anymore.
