nexxus change or cut?

I have a 1997 xj 600s with the 4-2 downpipes with the nexus on one side, now we all know the nexus is terrible and sounds like a silent fart, purchased a r6 exhaust to stick on only to realise i have a 4-2 not 4-1 so i would need a Y connector..
Now my question is..
Do i cut the nexus open and rip the guts out and reweld (how hard is it?)
Or do i try harder to find a Y 2-1 connector
Does anyone have the specs for the 2-1 Y piece or have one laying around they wish to part company with.
