Broken angle grinder

Well my angle grinder has just started spinning at 1/3 of the speed it's ment to out of the blue, this wasn't progressive, it just happened all of a sudden.
Anyone got any idea what could cause it?
The two big metal plates inside (are they magnets?) got really hot within a second or two of switching it on, too hot to hold the grinder.
