hey all
Im Rett in reno nv and ive been sitting on a 98 xj600 for a few years now.
its been dropped and then changed hands a few times and then sat and sat. when i bought it someone had pieced it togother enough for me to test ride it. when i rode it i can say that it started fine but smoked and ticked a little until it warmed up. then seemed fine. then i let it sit some more. so now ive got carbs and a tank to clean and a battery to replace just to get back to zero.
in a rare moment of motivation on friday i went out to my storage unit and started tearing into it. my only other bike is a v-twin and i cant believe how simple this was to pull apart so far. i never would have imagined there could be so much room to work inside a frame. i think im in love! ive got the broken plastics, the empty (except for rust im sure) tank, the air box and the carbs in my apartment now carbs are generaly back togother although i need to replace mikuni's screws. the current job seems to be to get back to "running" so i can see if i can figure out whats smoking/ticking before i start buying things like fork seals or front fairing or tail light and blinkers. want to make sure ive got something to work with before i start skipping meals to pay for a paint job!
ive already got a slew of questions. im sure some of them are quite stupid, but ill ask em anyhow! i hope youre willing to help and im looking forward to learning something new and maybe being of some help some day too.
nice to meet you all.
