Fork protectors - How to remove?

Hello all.
I've seen that the latests models of the XJ 600 (my own included) have fork protectors installed from factory.
Can these be removed, and if so, how?
I just noticed that you can get protectors with built-in fork seals. Like below:
Are these the ones we have mounted, or is there a separate fork seal and the protector can just be taken off?
