Stumped, dies if it's not super rich.

Ya’ll know me, I’m not one to ask for advice, I usually just research and troubleshoot my own problems, but this problem is annoying me to no end.

So, my ’93 had been running beautifully. I added the #100 main, and #20 pilot jets, did a valve clearance adjustment, basically cleaned the engine inside and out. I did all of this last winter, and have been riding all spring, summer, and fall with zero problems. Then all of the sudden, out of the blue, come to think of it, it was after I filled the tank up one day, it starts running like crap. Stalling, acting like it starving, uneven and low idle revs. Of course, I have been lazy about it, and haven’t cracked open the carbs to look at the jets. Maybe a little chunk of crap made it through the fuel filter. I added Seafoam to the tank, and it made a little improvement. Now it runs, but it is super rich, and if I lean out the idle adjustment knob, it dies. So I need to keep it super rich to keep it running. The petcock and fuel lines are fine, the oil and filter are fresh. Nothing leaks anywhere. It had been colder but I just can’t wrap my head around what made it go from great to crappy instantly.

So I humbly pose my question to this amazing group of knowledgeable XJ lovers…any ideas?
