Headphones For Riding

In your guys experiences, what kind of headphone do you like to wear under your helmets? I know its not safe, yada yada yada, but for those of you that choose too, any preferences? Earbuds tend to make my ears hurt after a while, and I've wanted tried the clip-on over ear style, but am not sure if they will work under a helmet. Dont know someone that had some I could try. Concerned helmet pads would squeeze even the thinnest styles to hard on the ears. What do you guys think?
