Valve cover removal - arrgh!

Getting around to doing my valve check/adjust - read the tips here and they've been very helpful in understanding the process. I have the tank and fairing off but still can't seem to get the valve cover clear of the frame - it seem to be hanging up on brackets on the back of the carbs on the right side - can't seem to clear the cam gears/chain to get it out of there :wallbash: ; what am I missing?
(don't have to pull the carb's do I? Mine's a '98.
