Charging troubleshooting

So, I suddenly was having a problem with my charging system. Seemed like the battery wasn't charging while it was running and I would need a jump start after the bike sat for a day, say like when trying to leave work. Anyway, after searching this fabulous wealth of knowledge we've all helped to create, :type: I came across this:

I was thinking maybe it was a bad rectifier/regulator, or stator or some bad wiring somewhere... So, I go buy a $4 digital multimeter from Harbor Freight and start following the flow chart. Looks like my charging system was working fine... so what's the problem then? :wallbash: Fortunately I happen to have a 2nd XJ600 sitting in my garage getting dusty...

(Shhhhhhhhhh) don't tell but I "borrowed" the battery from Kimberly's Seca II...

So far it's charging fine. :kudos:

Moral of the story, avoid the cheapest battery "Walmart" sells, or you will be replacing it every season. And also, start with the simple things when troubleshooting. The simplest solution is usually the right one.

I see a lot of posts about charging problems lately and people wanting to replace their stators or R/R's, maybe it's the battery after all.
