possible project bike with issues!

I have the opportunity to buy another xj for 300 off a friend of a friend! Bike has 13000 miles ran great til he was riding down the highway and it just died out of nowhere and never started again he thoight maybe carbs until he tried jumping it through a charger and sparks flew from the terminals and blew all fuses and dimmed the hoise lights lol im just wondering where i should start with this bike if i buy it? He says it will not turn over even after replacing all fuses
