Xj6 Air box Questions ???

I just ordered a DynoJet carb kit from Amazon and I'm hoping to install it this weekend. my question is the kit comes with stages 1,2,3 and 7, im wanting to go with stage 2 for starters because its for a lightly modified engine, and my bike had a K&N filter with V&H pipes -Stage 2: stock/mild modified engine, stock/ modified pipes, stock/modified filters; about an 8% power increase.
But the Stage 3: stock/mild modified engine, stock/modified pipes, individual air filters, drive ability may be compromised, N/A for some motors; about a 10-15% power increase.
The individual air filters really bothers me ... I haven't read anything good about doing it and I really don't think its worth the money for something I just don't think will work well.
Is there anything that you guys know of that can be done to the stock airbox to get enough air to run the stage 3 kit without the individual air filters???
I thought about fabing a set of side scoops similar to the Vmax kinda deal and running a tube up to the neck of the airbox but I haven't figured that one out yet
