High beam acting flaky

Not sure if it's the switch/contacts or what. Did a search and didn't find this behavior anywhere else so here goes...

Couple weeks back I had gotten some service done and was about to leave for a 3-day group ride to Durango (I'll try to get a ride story w/ pics posted).

The night before I left I had rigged up all the luggage and took a spin to make sure everything would stay put. That went fine, but on that ride my high beam failed; when switched to HI, the bulb went dark. Figured the filament was toast. This persisted for a couple weeks and I was looking for replacement bulbs, upgrades... then it started working again!

"Sweet!!" I said to myself. You folks here know the stock low beam isn't the greatest at night....

Then a couple days ago it did it again... same behavior, switching to HI = dark bulb, LO works fine. Still doing that.

I can get my hands on a voltmeter I think... but I wonder if it's the switch itself. Any thoughts?
Should I just inspect and clean all wiring contacts at the bulb and the switch?

I do have the original MOM including the little wiring diagram they folded and stuck in the back. Also have a Haynes and the FSM in PDF if needed.

Thanks folks!...
