to go streetfighter or not? torn.

alright, my front fairing is trash, beyond repair thanks to PO. right now the bike looks ridiculous with stock headlight and gauge cluster and wires everywhere.
i'm not crazy about the factory front fairing anyway, but i like the idea of a windscreen.
i wouldn't mind retaining the stock gauge cluster for odometer accuracy (currently 11,300 miles). and don't want to have trouble reselling the bike in the future if i can't give next owner an accurate/believable odometer reading.
so the age old question...
bite the bullet and go streetfighter (the wifey likes the look of everlast's bike, btw) or just trim down the stock front fairing enough to retain headlight surround and windscreen maybe leaving slightly more fairing than the blue bike owner on this site that trimmed his similarly (sorry can't remember screenname)??
to sum up, i want to make the bike more angular and the factory plastics aren't a part of that plan, but i do want to retain the factory gauge cluster. and i have no idea if i can live without a windscreen or not since i haven't ridden enough miles to determine my tolerance on the matter (bike is a work in progress and i have only ridden the bike 63 miles so far since purchase and not yet at speeds above 55mph)
please help!
