Question about aftermarket Speedo & Headlamp/Windscreen

I just recently bought my first motorcycle from Prafeston. He was doing a naked conversion on it but never got around to replacing the speedo. Being my first bike and all I don't want to be driving too fast just yet so a speedo is a must for me. Plus, I'm anal about checking my gas mileage so I've got to have my odometer as well.
I've got the stock gauges balanced above the cyclops headlight using some brackets he made but it's just plain ugly and hinders the use of the headlight.
My first question is regarding the Trail Tech Vapor gauges. I've tried to read up on them and come close to ordering a unit but I'm iffy about the wiring as there doesn't seem to be anything specifically compatible with the Seca II. Is it as simple as a plug to wire it all up or do the wires need spliced in order for everything to work properly? Regardless, the Vapor gauge is a little out of my price range right now so I'll probably go with a cheaper, simple, analog unit in the meantime.
I've seen some simple units with a speedometer cable hook-up and a red and black wire for backlight. Does anybody know if I would have to run a new power wire for this or would I be able to splice it into the stock gauge's lighting wires?
Also, I've seen some slick headlamp/windscreen combinations around this site. Does anybody have any recommendations that fit a budget? I ordered some mirrors with integrated turn signals and I'm just waiting for the screw-in adapters to arrive. The mirrors are bigger than I expected and I think a nice windscreen would keep the naked look of the bike from looking alien with the massive antennae.
I am open to suggestions on the speedo and windscreen and any help I could get from the forum would be greatly appreciated.
