Finicky downshift on XJ600N

Hi guys,
I bought my first motorcycle, an XJ600N. I love riding it, but when I shift down through the gears, I have to tap the shift lever several times, when going from 4th to 3rd. It does not happen every time, but often and it's quite annoying.
Any suggestions what could be the issue?
It's a 2001 with 25k km on the clock.
