92 XJ600s Starter Idler Replacement Question

Hi Everyone.
I'm new here to the forum. I was given a 92 XJ600 Seca II in decent shape, but the idler gear was stripped.
I've followed Radare's starter idler gear replacement instructions here on the forum to the point where I got the smaller gear out. It had quite a few teeth missing.
The question I have is, do I go ahead and replace the larger gear since I have the thing apart? It doesn't show any signs of wear or damage on the teeth. Judging by the amount of RTV there is between the lower case and the top end (and the fact that #6 case bolt was missing), it looks as if someone has been in there before.
The engine has 28k miles on it. I'm probably going to replace all the seals and such since I'm already in there, but I thought I'd get your thoughts. The second gear was almost $140 shipped.. so I'd kind of like to save that $$ and put it towards something else on the bike, but if it's best to replace it I'm game to do that!
Thanks,
Mitch
