Crankshaft Seal 00.jpg
After a complete engine rebuild (with new seals, gaskets, etc etc), I still had a slow drip from the left side crankshaft seal - the one under the ignition timing sensor plate. The guy who installed my Yamaha seal (me) managed to get the little spring and inner lip of the seal a bit folded into each other. (No photo of that, but maybe you can imagine.)

So I replaced it with a KTM part number that my preferred supplier had in stock. A very nice seal (but I didn't take a photo of it, either.)

KTM crankshaft seal (same size as ours)

It's still leaking. :-(

I suspect I'm doing something wrong.
How deep is that seal supposed to sit?
Flush with the engine case surface? Fully seated?
Should I be using a gasket sealer on the outside surface of that seal?

Thanks in advance
