is there a trick to undoing exhaust header bolts?

Hi,
I think I'm going to need a new exhaust sometime soon for my 1996 xj600:-(
My exhaust header bolts (the big allen / socket headed ones) have been there for 25 years and seem to want to stay put! What is the best method for undoing them without breakage?
