So long story short I got this red 92 xj600 about 4 weeks ago and the guy (my old boss) still hasn't found the title, So i was looking around ebay and craigslist and other classifieds and I found another bike that was in my price range (2k max) and it is a yellow 94 XJ600

the bike looks clean and has 7000 miles on it and is not far from where i'm going to be this weekend, and i like that it's a naked bike.

I told my friend who is a bike junkie and he is telling me to get a gs500 or a ninja 250/500 or sv650 because they are better bikes, and have better power to weight ratio and better application of power.

I am not looking for a crazy fast bike. I just need something to get 2 and from work 60 miles each way, that is better then my old cop car.

he said the power is not very good compared to the other bikes he listed and that the xj600 is going to cost more in maintenance and be less reliable. because it is a L4 instead of a vtwin or parallel twin.

Now i know i'm buying used and that i cannot tell the condition and how well it was maintained other then some investigation to look for frame damage, poor chain and sprockets, look in the tank for rust, make sure fork compress properly etc.

But I want to know how reliable have your XJ600's been compared to any other bikes you've owned and does it really cost more to maintain?

PS I know it is my choice and below are some of the reasons i like the bike.
I really like the seca II compared to a lot of the other bikes I have ridden due to the seating position and the posture, cruisers have my legs all the way out in front and my buddies Triumph has the foot pegs behind me and makes me have to lay down almost, the seca is more comfortable. and i really like the seat height compared to the 250's at my msp class and the honda shadow 600 DLX i am also considering buying.
