Crankshaft removal

Hi

My 1997 XJ600, just a progress report.....

The top crankcase is now almost empty, apart from the cylinder block which is stuck, and the crankshaft with all pistons still attached.

I'm doing this, the reverse method....hehehehe....everyone else removes the cylinder block, then removes the pistons etc, but because my cylinder block is ' frozen on ' at the moment, I thought I would drop out the crankshaft and pistons complete, then with the crankcase empty, I could apply heat and wax and whatever to separate the crankcase from the cylinder block.

I have...' shaken ' the crankcase and the whole crankshaft assembly is almost out of the crankcase, but not quite, I think I need to find a soft landing for the pistons, as they gently plop out of the cylinders.......as in my dreams.

Then it will be time for a lot of cleaning, checking all the tolerances on pistons, rings, and replacing all bearings, seals.........and removing the cylinder head studs...etc

This Winter project is going well, apart from the regular dramas, and lots of mashed screw heads, but nothing broken, or drilled.......
