Some light liquid spray on left boot after riding

Hi folks,
on my recently bought Seca II I noticed that there is a bit of liquid spray on the right side of my left boot after riding about 40 miles / 65km (mostly highway at 60-70mph). I am sure that it's not liquid that somehow splashed upwards from the street, because a) it's only on the left boot and not on the right, and b) after riding to work I wiped it off, just to have pretty much the same pattern back after riding home.
I don't see any leaking fluid on the engine. Holding my hands close to the engine when it's idling, I don't notice any spray coming out. What parts are down there that could spray some fluid? I don't have a picture of it, but I will take it when I'm back home. When wiping it off, the residue in the towel was dark brown/black, but that could have just been whatever liquid came out plus all the dirt that had accumulated on my boot.
Note that my bike has been dropped on the left by (some of the) previous owner(s) and the... black cap on the engine below the cylinders (whatever that is) has huge scrape marks. I haven't inspected it very closely, but at least there are no gaping holes or cracks in there.
Cheers
