Safety Switches (scenario)

I know about the 3 safety switches, clutch, neutral, and kick stand, and how they work together to keep the rider safe. I can't figure out my specific issue, though, as to which of my 3 switches has a problem. Here is my scenario. The bike is on the stand, in Neutral. The engine cranks, but won't start. I pull the clutch in and then it starts. Similarly, I pull into my garage, put it into Neutral, take my hand off the clutch, and put the kickstand down. The engine quits.
Enlighten me as to which of my switches is bad.
