Broken acorn nut in carberator solutions

Thought I would post this up since I've seen a fair number of people posting about broken acorn nuts recently. Last summer when I had to go through my carbs and give them a good cleaning and tune I found that I was missing three of the acorn nuts inside the carbs. What was there were some pan head stainless steel machine screw. They were the right thread and all but where to long and where pushing against the pin and holding the slides open ever so slightly. So I looked into getting some new ones but i found that they run about $7-$8 a peice!!! No way I was going to pay $21 + shipping for screws/nuts/things. So I got creative and thought about what I could do instead. Here is what I came up with: I took the stainless screws out and spun some nuts on to them so that I could chase the threads after I used my hacksaw to cut them to about the right length. I wanted enough threads so that it would hold and was hoping it would be enough to allow the slides to close, but it wasn't. So I then took a small drill bit and very carefully drilled into the center of the threads and used bigger and bigger drill bits until I felt they were "open" enough for that pin to not interfere with them. What do you know it worked!!!! I had recieved some O-rings for the carbs from another member and he was nice enough to include an extra acorn nut that he had but that still left me two short. I put everything back together with the two drilled out stainless screws and synced and adjusted the carbs, She's been running like a champ ever since. It might be a viable option for someone looking to replace a broken one but not willing to part ways with the rediculous price for one nut/bolt!!!

Hope this maybe helps someone. If this is a bad Idea I'd love to hear reasons why!
