issues... and frustration...

so i bench synced the carbs.
i got O2 bungs welded onto the headers and an O2 sensor & air/fuel gauge soldered together.
i tried to adjust the air/fuel mixture via the pilot screws @ 3000rpm aaaaand no luck... cylinder two and three read perfect but one and four had a lean reading where ever i turned the pilot screw. do the carbs have to be synced after the pilot screw is set as i can think that would be the problem. i am getting backfire out of the left exhaust pipe. my rpms are also not coming back down once warm and only when ive been driving it. not really when im working on it...
